Dear Prospective Cheerleader,
The Ohio Northern University Cheerleading Squad is excited to announce our tryouts for 2009-10. We will hold tryouts Sunday, April 19th, from 10 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. in the King Horn Sports Center at Ohio Northern. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tryouts are open to all incoming freshmen women and current students. Any men interested in cheering are also encouraged to attend tryouts however they will not be formally judged. We encourage participants to try out for both the football and basketball squads however we may make exceptions for participants that can only cheer for an individual season.
The ONU Cheerleaders support Polar Bear athletics at all football games and at home men’s basketball games. The season will begin with a camp at ONU the week before classes begin in the fall. During the year, the squad practices twice a week in the evenings. ONU Cheerleaders will also participate in fundraising activities such as cheerleading clinics and service projects within the community. We are always searching for fun ways to expand our impact on and off the field!
During tryouts, participants will learn a chant and a cheer, review jumps and tumbling, and perform stunts with existing squad members. We recognize that participants may not have experience in all of these areas. We look for individuals with positive attitudes who are excited to try new things. At the end of the day, participants will be judged on these skills, and a cheer or chant of their choosing. Participants can make up a cheer or select one from another squad to perform polished material that highlights their strengths.
Participants should come prepared with the following for tryouts:
- Dress: White t-shirt, black shorts, sneakers (cheerleading shoes if you have them).
- Appearance: Hair pulled back out of the face. No jewelry!
- Any tape, braces, or supports needed to perform cheering activities.
- Water bottle.
Lunch will be provided for participants.
Please complete and return this form before tryouts. The first section asks about your previous cheering experience. We will use this information to help better structure our tryouts. The second section of the form is a release which must be completed and signed in order to participate in tryouts. Individuals under the age of 18 must have this form signed by a parent or guardian. Please return these forms to the following address by April 10th, 2009.
