Join Mortar Board
To become a member of Mortar Board you must be a junior, P3, or P4 and have a 3.0 G.P.A. or above. Those students who meet the scholarship criteria will be sent information sheets early winter quarter. Selections are based on scholarship, leadership, and service. Having proven themselves capable of fulfilling one of these requirements, an application will allow current Mortar Board members to evaluate students on the other two requirements. Applications must be returned before Christmas break. An exact date and the address to which students should send their applications will be provided when they are notified of meeting the academic dimension of the organization. After selecting the initiates based on scholarship, leadership, and service, they will then be informed by being "tapped" later during winter quarter. Their service is to begin during spring quarter to prepare them for the following year.
Mortar Board's purpose as a national senior honor society is to contribute to the self-awareness of its members, to support the ideals of the university, to advance the spirit of scholarship, to recognize and encourage leadership, to provide service, and to establish the opportunity for a meaningful exchange of ideas as individuals and as a group. It is not simply an honor society but also a service organization. There is a high expectation that all members participate in service activities. Applicants should be willing to make this commitment.
