On March 31, millions of empty red envelopes will be sent nationwide to President Obama in hopes to show him how passionate people across the United States are about the proposed Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). FOCA would ultimately legalize abortion and more taxes will go to supporting insurance to pay for them.

On March 18, Jeannie Blevins, hostess for Sodexho at Ohio Northern University took the stage for Faith Lift. Blevins spoke of her Midwest upbringing and her found love and respect for Jesus.  
Through her life, Blevins held strong family ties and though her family did not have much money, they shared many values and a lot of love. Blevins said everyone treated each other with respect and kindness.
Blevins also said her family was raised on the Golden rule, treat others the way you would want them to treat you.

Furthering its mission against substandard housing, ONU’s Habitat for Humanity recently sent 25 students to Johns Island, South Carolina, in the second of three spring break mission trips.
“Through Habitat for Humanity’s spring break trips, students show their commitment to volunteer work and are able to actually see the end product of their efforts,” said Habitat for Humanity President and P3 Jay Gindlesberger.

Two hundred eighty-seven new donors were entered into the National Bone Marrow Registry on March 15 during the bone marrow registration drive organized by Newman Club.
The drive was the first of three to be held at ONU with the purpose of finding a potential donor for Robert Purgert, the 15-year-old brother of Jaclyn Purgert, P1.

Senior youth ministry major Jessica Applequist admits that it’s not something you would expect from a group of college students on spring break…not even close.
While others might head to Florida to enjoy warmer weather, the Volunteers in Mission headed a little further south to Honduras and Monterrey, Mexico, in order to serve the people there in whatever way possible.

While most students enjoyed spring break’s rest and relaxation, Ohio Northern’s Habitat for Humanity was hard at work in Biloxi, Mississippi. Thirty-one students participated in the seven-day mission trip, helping build homes in areas destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Andrew Shaffer, ONU alumnus and current graduate student of Theology at Emory University, spoke during last week’s Faith Lift about rituals and meaning in Christian and everyday life.
According to Shaffer, people find meaning in certain objects and rituals in life. In these objects and rituals, he said, “we deposit the meaning of our lives, and from them we make withdrawals of meaning as well. Everyday, ordinary objects become extraordinary, rich with meaning and importance.”
