On March 31, millions of empty red envelopes will be sent nationwide to President Obama in hopes to show him how passionate people across the United States are about the proposed Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). FOCA would ultimately legalize abortion and more taxes will go to supporting insurance to pay for them.
Brittani Csongedi, president of Ohio Northern University Pro-Life, said: “I hope enough envelopes will be sent to make an impact that people in this country are very opposed to this and want to try and convince President Obama that there will be many upset people in this world if he continues changing abortion laws.”
Each red envelope addressed to President Obama will state on the back, “This envelope represents one child who died because of an abortion. It is empty because the life that was taken is now unable to give anything to our world."
Students, churches, campuses and individuals will be participating nationwide in Red Envelope Day.
“Everyone is very concerned about what Obama may bring to this country, and we're trying every attempt to stop it,” Csongedi said. “If this is not stopped, many things will happen across the US that will affect all citizens.”
According to Csongedi and www.fightfoca.com the following actions could possibly happen if FOCA is passed:
-  All abortions, including partial birth, will be legal and have no limitations
- All hospitals, including Catholic hospitals will be required to perform abortions upon request. If this happens, Bishops vow to close down all Catholic hospitals (more than 30% of all hospitals in the US.)
- All U.S. tax payers would be funding abortions
- Parental notification will no longer be required
- The number of abortions will increase by a minimum of 100,000 annually
-  “The government may not deny or interfere with a woman’s right to choose to bear a child or to terminate a pregnancy”
The web site also said FOCA would invalidate the following state provisions:
- Regulations of abortion clinics even those designed to make abortion safer for women
- Government programs that pay for, provide, or insure childbirth or health care services generally, but not abortion
- Laws protecting the conscience rights of doctors, nurses and hospitals if those laws create even minimal delay or inconvenience in obtaining an abortion or treat abortion differently than other medical procedures.
- Laws requiring that abortion only be performed by a licensed physician
- Laws requiring that abortion providers maintain certain records with respect to performed abortions.
“No one should be ashamed of being pro-life,” Csongedi said. “I advise everyone to respectfully explain their belief and why they know it to be right. Being Pro-Life is an everyday duty, not just March 31.”
