As the soccer season is underway, Geoff Smith and Christina Haley are enjoying their senior seasons at Ohio Northern University.   Both Smith and Haley have been a big part of the men’s and women’s soccer programs for the past four years, and hope to end their seasons with an OAC title and a trip to the NCAA national tournament.
So far, these goals look very reachable.
Smith will be graduating with a degree in Sports Management. He has been a varsity midfielder the past four years and is looking forward to the 2008 campaign.
Kicking off the season with six straight wins he says “is the best start for our program since I have been here.” Two of the wins were against top California teams - Redlands and California Lutheran.
Looking back at his soccer career here at ONU, Smith’s most memorable moment would have to be “winning the 2006 OAC tournament at home.”
And he is hoping to recapture that title this year.
Smith has put a lot of hard work into soccer and academics here at ONU.  After college, he hopes to attend graduate or law school and coach a soccer team of his own one day.
Christina Haley is also a senior at Northern this year, who will be receiving her degree in Pre-Physical Therapy.
Haley has also earned four years of varsity action, and plays the midfield position.
Haley said that her most memorable moment from her soccer career was “traveling to Europe two summers ago and playing in three different countries.” Haley mentioned that beating Capital in 2007 to finish in first place and undefeated in the OAC was another highlight for her as an athlete.
The women’s team, currently 4-2-1, is ready for another successful season.
After college, Haley also plans on going to graduate school.
