Inspiration from the Pepsi Center stage

Friday I had the privelage of having the position of access security at the Pepsi Center- host of the DNC speakers August 25-28th.  I was in one of the first groups of people to physically view the podium and set that has taken three solid months to prepare.  My position as security was to make sure that the visiting public did not wander off into areas that were not accessible to the public.  Posted on the floor of the Pepsi Center, I was able to speak with many of the people who helped to complete the visually inspiring masterpiece that will surround the esteemed speakers next week.  Their hardwork and physical labor has been so precisely done, that it looks effortless.

Prior to my security position on the floor, DNCC members allowed volunteers to tour the Pepsi Center prior to the public, and I was approached by a local branch of FOX News for an interview about the Convention and the school children visitors who were about to arrive.  The interview was both scary and exhilarating as the news-caster asked me how I felt about the DNC's decision to host local children and why I thought it was important to become policially active at a young age.  Afterward, one of my colleagues was interviewed for a live feed of the local NBC channel where ONU students surrounded her, waving and smiling at the camera.

Later in the day, we heard from DNC Chairman Howard Dean.  His speech was inspiring and, I believe, reassuring to some students who are not as confident going into their placements next week.  He reminded us that we should act in a way in which we wanted to be treated.  Meaning that when while we are here, we should remain confident and assertive and we will be treated with respect and as competent adults.  I am so excited for all of us to begin next week as I feel that we all have this attitude toward this experience!

I feel so incredibly fortunate to be here.  I have already handed out multiple business cards and have been contacted by media friends and remembered by the President of the Host Committee.  As a group we have been on the CNN portable news bus twice, inside the Pepsi Center and Invesco Stadium, and have met so many amazing scholars and VIPs in the DNCC.
