Why to Recycle

"Solid wastes are the discarded leftovers of our advanced consumer society. This growing mountain of garbage and trash represents not only an attitude of indifference toward valuable natural resources, but also a serious economic and public health problem." -U.S. President, Jimmy Carter

"In war, everyone talks about defending their homelands. Yet isn't it ironic that while we talk about defending our homeland, we are wasting it, burning it down, and littering it with garbage. We should be taking care of our homeland. There are so many things we can do to take care of our home. We should recycle because it saves the resources needed to make new products. We should recycle because this earth was given to us to live in as our home." -Unknown

"We have only been given one earth to live on. This planet is our home and we should take care of it! It is everyone's responsibility to care for the place in which they live." -Marinda Hanover, ONU student

"We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect." -Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac

"The earth has a limited amount of resources and we need to reserve what we have." -Nick Schifer, ONU student

"I only feel angry when I see waste. When I see people throwing away things we could use." -Mother Teresa
