About Student Senate
Student Senate is the governing body for the students at Ohio Northern and serves as a liaison between the students and administration. Student Senate is here to serve the students by bringing suggestions, comments, and ideas to the attention of the administration. These suggestions and ideas are then put into proposals that are presented to University officials. Over the years Student Senate has brought proposals such as lights on the tennis courts, extending visitation hours, scholarship initiatives, mile markers on the Green Monster, and many more.
There are several ways you can get involved with Senate. In the fall there are elections for housing representatives. Senators are elected for all of the residence halls and fraternity/sorority housing. In the winter there are elections for college representatives from each of the respected colleges on campus. To run for election all you have to do is fill out a petition to get your name placed on the ballot and voting takes place online. If you would like to get involved watch your e-mail for updates and deadlines to run for election.
The purpose of the Ohio Northern Student Senate is to serve as the official representative group of the student body to the University personnel, the University Community, and agencies in matters pertaining to the student body. The Student Senate shall:
- Respond to and initiate proposals deemed beneficial to the general welfare of the students
- Receive student complaints, investigate student problems, and work toward their resolution
- Serve as a liaison in the coordination and support of activities and services of other student-oriented bodies
- Promote greater cooperation and communication between the faculty, staff, administration, and students
- Promote educational experiences, programs, and opportunities available to the Student Body
- Protect individual student rights and freedoms to the best of its ability
