P-12 Student Demographics

School districts with which ONU collaborates for the purpose of field experiences and clinical practice range in racial diversity from 42.6% reporting as white non-hispanic (Lima City Schools) to more than 95% white non-hispanic (several districts listed in the chart below).  Although some districts appear to have little diversity based on the race/ethnicity numbers reported, it is important to note other forms of diversity.  For example, many of the districts below include a range of student socioeconomic status as indicated by the percent of students on free/reduced lunch.  One recent alumna shares her experiences working with low-income families in one of the districts below and the related issues of parent drug addiction, incarcerated parents, and other difficult situations for children to which she was not exposed as part of her own private school experiences.  As noted earlier, Ada Local School District has seen an increase in ELL students as a result of the ONU collaboration with the Saudi Arabian government for the purpose of providing additional education to Saudi prison guards.  These guards and their families have been residing in Ada and ONU teacher candidates have had the opportunity to work with these students in their Ada field experience and student teaching placements.
